The Toronto Blue Jays got off to an amazing start to this postseason. Toronto beat their rival New York Yankees twice to take a suffocating two games to zero lead in the American League Divisional series. The Blue Jays scored a record twenty-three runs through their first two outings and allowed just 8 runs to New York.
Blue jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. exercised his playoff demons by homering in his first at-bat in game 1. Guerrero added to his performance with a grand slam during a pivotal moment in game 2. It was the first postseason grand slam in Blue Jays history. But it wasn’t just Guerrero carrying the load for the Blue Jays, fan-favourites Alejandro Kirk and Daulton Varsho each had multi-homerun games in game 1 and 2 respectively.
The Blue Jays secured their playoff spot by winning the American League East division for the first time in a decade. The shades of their spectacular 2015 season has fans excited about what this team can achieve. But they’ll face a tough test in the Bronx during game 3 on Tuesday. New York will no doubt come out firing with everything they have to try and even this series with their home games.
